¡¡¡¡BEIJING, May 3 (Xinhuanet) --Incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist frontrunner Francois Hollande have fought for their political futures in a live prime-time TV debate. It¡¯s the climax to the election campaign before voters head to the presidential runoff election on Sunday.

¡¡¡¡Sarkozy previously billed this debate as the "moment of truth" in the election race, hoping to gain enough momentum to turn things around, with Hollande predicted by all polls to win comfortably. Sarkozy¡¯s latest setback came on Tuesday when far-right leader Marine Le Pen refused to endorse him and announced she would cast a blank vote.

¡¡¡¡It remains unknown if the conservative incumbent can seize the last chance to convince more voters in order not to be defeated. Sarkozy hopes he can swing things in his favor by portraying Hollande as lacking experience and economic credibility.

¡¡¡¡Hollande¡¯s strategy is expected to be to take apart the conservative president¡¯s five years in office, which have seen France lose its AAA credit rating and the number of jobless people reach four million.
